Clockgear Animation
Intro of Final year project Firm – Clockgear Animation
- Time Spent : 3 weeks
- Used Tool : Maya
- Focused on : Compositing, Lighting, Animating
– What is This?
I produced a 3D intro video for my final-year project that metaphorically depicts the transition from the mythical Golden Age to the Iron Age.
I aimed to convey a repeating, rhythmic motion across the sequence while keeping it engaging with varied camera moves and compelling compositions so viewers wouldn’t become bored.
After complete other parts of final year project, the video’s title and other information will later be displayed as on-screen captions.

Reflection
I had basic knowledge of lighting, but I was very curious about how to create cinematic lighting. I watched several online tutorials and ran experiments myself. Designing the lighting so that it creates a dark, mysterious atmosphere while guiding the viewer’s eye was really difficult. At the same time, in shots where attention should be focused, I needed the light to reflect nicely on objects.
Next, I worked on animation, mainly basic keyframe animation and adjusting speeds to create a sense of rhythm. The camera also had to move rhythmically. Overall, the workflow of unifying the motion, finding it unsatisfying, and then reworking it proved to be very time-consuming.
When it was finished, I felt great because the result looked convincingly striking. However, I learned that achieving a great scene with a small number of lights is preferable: I ended up using over 50 lights, and modifying the lighting took an excessive amount of time.
